Congratulations: You have just acquired SPORTSBOOK, the World's
only computer program that simulates the activity of a Las Vegas
Sportsbook.
IMPORTANT: In order to run the System there must be a "CONFIG.SYS"
file on your DOS diskette (if you power on from the A Drive) or in
the directory from which you power on (Usually the C Drive). The
Config.Sys file should say:
FILES=20
BUFFERS=20
To examine your Config.Sys file type "TYPE CONFIG.SYS" and hit
ENTER. If you do not have a Config.Sys file, copy the one we sent
you to your DOS diskette or to your C Drive, Primary directory.
SPORTSBOOK Documentation is necessarily written so that the program
is satisfactorily explained to people who have no previous computer
experience. Others can almost ignore the Documentation because much
of what it contains is evident to those who have previous computer
experience and because the Menu Operated Program is relatively easy
to follow.
The Documentation is divided into sections that correspond to the
numbered Options of the Main Menu of the SPORTSBOOK program and may
be used as a reference from time to time.
INSTALLING SPORTSBOOK
Following are "Installation Procedures" which list the steps
required to start-up SPORTSBOOK.
1. Insert the SPORTSBOOK Diskette into the A drive, type:
"A:BUILD", and depress Enter.
Two files will be copied to your C drive, primary directory,
a directory called "SPORTS" will be created and all the
remaining SPORTSBOOK programs will be copied to the C drive,
Sports directory.
2. To Load SPORTSBOOK, Type: "SPORTS" and depress Enter.
3. SPORTSBOOK Will present you with its Main Menu. YOU MUST
FIRST CREATE THE FILES THE SYSTEM WILL USE.
NOTE: This procedure need be done but once, when you FIRST install
your system.
A) From the Main SPORTSBOOK Menu, Type 44 and Hit Enter. This
creates the Cash and Customer files.
B) When the Main Menu returns, Type 55 and Hit Enter. This
creates the Linefile.
SAVING FILES IS IMPORTANT AND TAKES BUT A FEW MOMENTS.
DO IT OFTEN & ALWAYS BEFORE & AFTERPROCESSINGWAGERS.
NOTE: To Save your files, Exit the Main SPORTSBOOK Menu via
Option 99, Type: "SAVE" and depress Enter.
SAVE is a batch file which copies three necessary
files to the A Drive.
LICENSE TO USE SPORTSBOOK
SPORTSBOOK is for YOUR PERSONAL USE ONLY.
The only copy of SPORTSBOOK that is authorized is the copy made
from the disk you purchased to the hard disk on YOUR computer.
We realize that in your eagerness to share the delights of this
program, you may make copies for your friends.
We ask that you reimburse the author for his time and effort in
providing you with the pleasures that this program provides.
If you make an unauthorized copy of SPORTSBOOK or are the
recipient of an unauthorized copy, please send $15.00 to:

WARNING:
GAMBLING IS ILLEGAL IN MOST AREAS OF THE UNITED STATES. THE
TRANSMISSION OF GAMBLING INFORMATION ACROSS STATE LINES MAY BE A
FEDERAL OFFENSE.
SPORTSBOOK is a software program that simulates the
activity of a Las Vegas Sportsbook. It is for entertainment
purposes.
The purchaser agrees that he will not use its contents for
any purpose that might violate any local, state or federal
laws.
INTRODUCTION TO SPORTSBOOK
SPORTSBOOK was designed to be easily operated with no previous
computer experience. The program is "Menu Driven".
After installing SPORTSBOOK you should be able to type "SPORTS"
from either the Primary directory or the Sports directory.
The "Main Menu" is divided into 13 Options plus an Exit. In
addition to this Introduction, there are Sections which correspond
to the Menu Options. These Sections will tell you how to best use
SPORTSBOOK.
GETTING ACQUAINTED WITH SPORTSBOOK:
To operate SPORTSBOOK you need an IBM Compatible computer (DOS 2.1
or higher) with a hard disk, and the SPORTSBOOK System disk.
SPORTSBOOK does not require a printer.
There will always be a bright blip, somewhere on the screen. This
blip is the "CURSOR". The cursor shows you where the next character
you type will appear.
Before entering any information into the computer, familiarize
yourself with the conventions by which we instruct you to enter
information.
A specific instruction on what to type will say TYPE (in upper case
letters) and enclose the keys or numbers or letters you are to type
in angle brackets. Angle brackets look like this < >.
Examples:
If we say: TYPE <A> Depress "A" and Hit the Enter.
If we say: TYPE <SPORTS> Depress "SPORTS" and hit Enter.
If we say: TYPE <8> Depress "8" and Hit the Enter.
Do NOT type the brackets or the quotation marks.
Numbers may be typed in by using the number keys on the top line
of the keyboard or, if you have a keyboard with a numeric key pad,
by using the number pad.
OPTION 1
ENTER SCHEDULE
To Enter the Schedule:
1. Load SPORTSBOOK. Eg. TYPE <SPORTS>.
2. From the MAIN MENU, TYPE <1>.
TIP: Remember, you must have created your files (TYPE <44> and
then TYPE <55> from the Main Menu.
3. SPORTSBOOK will ask you which Sport you want to enter the line
for first. It does this by displaying the Select Sport Menu.
SELECT SPORT MENU

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Example: To Enter Lines for NFL FOOTBALL, TYPE <3>.
4. SPORTSBOOK will then ask you to enter two dates:
Week-Ending Date and Schedule Date.
The Week-Ending Date for all College and Pro football is usually
the Monday night date in the NFL. The Schedule Date is the actual
game date. The purpose for this is to enable college games and pro
games scheduled all through the week to be parlayed and/or mixed
together.
In Basketball and Hockey, the Week-Ending Date and the Schedule
Date are usually the same, so SPORTSBOOK does not ask for two dates
in these sports.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
* ENTER WEEK-ENDING DATE *
* *
* SAME DATE? Y/N Y DATE IS 000000 *
* *
* FORMAT YYMMDD *
* *
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
IMPORTANT:
This is a different date request than the one you answered when you
first started up the computer for the day. That request was for the
date you turned on the computer. This is asking you for the
Week-Ending date of the games you will be entering..
SPORTSBOOK requests the Week-Ending Date and the Schedule Date to
be entered in a different manner than the System Date.
The format (YYMMDD) shows the exact order and sequence in which the
date must be entered. YY is for year, MM is for month and DD is for
Day. Year first, then month, then day. No symbols of any kind
between numbers. The double letter means you have to insert a
two-digit number for each entry. (See examples below.)
Examples:
For: February 23, 1987 TYPE <870223>
April 12, 1987 TYPE <870412>
December 4, 1987 TYPE <871204>
SPORTSBOOK always asks you if you want the same date. The first
time it asks you, you will want to answer "N" and then enter the
correct date. TYPE <N> and <870501>. The next time it asks you, you
will probably be able to answer "Y" and you won't have to enter the
date again. Example:
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
* ENTER WEEK-ENDING DATE *
* *
* SAME DATE ? Y/N N Y DATE IS 000000 *
* *
* 870501 *
* FORMAT YYMMDD *
* *
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
In the above example you answer: <N> (N for NO, because the date
you see displayed is not the correct date.) The cursor then drops
down to the Date Format area, where you type in the Week-Ending
date as shown.
If the date you want to enter is the same as the date on the
message, as in the example below, just TYPE <Y>.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
* *
* ENTER WEEK-ENDING DATE *
* *
* SAME DATE ? Y/N Y Y DATE IS 870501 *
* *
* FORMAT YYMMDD *
* *
* *
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Typing in the date, or answering "Y" when the correct date is
already displayed, generates the 2nd Date request, the Schedule
Date. This entry is the ACTUAL day of game. SPORTSBOOK then
displays the Schedule & Line Entries Menu.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WANT TOTALS? Y/N
TEAM # TEAM NAME LINE TOTAL
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
The next question to answer is "WANT TOTALS? Y/N". If you are
doing "Totals" (Over/Unders), TYPE <Y>. If you are not doing
Totals, TYPE <N>.
ENTERING LINE PROCEDURE
The Cursor is poised under the "TM #" (TEAM NUMBER) column. TYPE
<1>. The 1 will appear in the TEAM # column and the Cursor will
move over to the TEAM (NAME) column.
You then type in the name of the Visiting Team, using any
abbreviations, intials or code you want to use. The only limitation
is that the name can't exceed 10 characters.
For Example: TYPE <JETS>. The cursor will move over to the LINE
Column, ready to write the pointspread number.
The pointspread number must ALWAYS be written on the same line as
the Visiting Team.
If the Jets are not the favorite, simply type in a Line (Eg. "4").
Don't type a minus sign. Just TYPE <4>. The screen will show JETS
as a 4 point underdog and the cursor will move over to the TOTAL
(Over/Under) column. Now TYPE <42>.
The cursor drops to the next line, displays the number of the Home
team and awaits entry of the TEAM NAME. TYPE <DET>.
Let's assume that in the next game (# 3) the visiting team is the
favorite.
TYPE <MILW>. The cursor then moves over to the LINE column and
because Milwaukee is the favorite, type a Line next to Milwaukee.
Eg. If the pointspread is "5 1/2", TYPE <-5.5>. The cursor moves
over to the TOTAL column. TYPE <43.5>.
SPORTSBOOK will next display "4" under TM # and move over for you
to type in the name of that team. TYPE <CLEV>. Because there's
nothing left to enter for that game, the cursor will move down for
the next game entry.
Following is the way your screen should look at this point.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

To tell SPORTSBOOK that entering a Schedule is complete, TYPE
<999> where you would ordinarily type the next TEAM NAME.
SPORTSBOOK will then take you back to the Main Menu.
TIPS
1. The Line is always entered next to the Visitor.
2. Don't type in any Plus sign if the Visitor is the
Underdog. Type the Minus sign if the Visitor is the
favorite.
3. The TOTAL (the Over/Under number), if there is one, is
entered on the same line as the pointspread number.
4. If a game is PICK EM, you can write a "P" next to the
visiting team, OR 0.
5. Parlays on teams playing on different dates, can only be
accepted by "pretending" that they are being played on
the same date. To parlay a Sunday football game with the
Monday night game, or a Thursday game with a Sunday
game, you should enter all teams as playing on Sunday.
The recommended procedure is to enter all the week's
football games, college and pro, for Sunday's date. The
System refers to this date as the Week-Ending Date. That
way you can accept parlays on all football games,
including college teams with pro teams.
6. If you make a mistake entering a game,use Option 2,
described next, to delete the game. Then, re-enter it
using this option. The last entry you make is the one
permanently recorded. Try it.
OPTION 2
DELETE GAME(S)
Option 2 allows TWO TYPES OF DELETION: By specific game(s) and by
entire schedules. The Menus are quite straight forward. What is
important is that you know the difference between the two options.
There is only one instance where you would want to delate a
specific game. That is, if the game you entered actually does not
exist on the schedule or if you entered it incorrectly.
The other use (deleting groups of games, by date) is to eliminate
excess data from your hard disk after it is ofno use.
SPECIFIC GAME DELETION
Let's assume you want to delete Teams 1-2 in th NBA for May 1,
1987. From the Main Menu, TYPE <2>. Then:
a) TYPE <1> to indicate specific game(s).
b) TYPE <1> to indicate NBA.
c) Enter the correct date or "Y".
The screen will look like this:
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
OPTION 2 EDIT LINE SCHEDULE DATE 87/05/01
1=NBA 2=NCAA HOOPS 3=NFL 4=NCAA FTBALL 5=CFL 6=HOCKEY
TEAM # TEAM NAME LINE TOTAL
1 NETS + 4.0 222.0
1=DELETE GAME(S)
9=EXIT
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
At this point you would only have told SPORTSBOOK that you want to
Delete an unspecified number of games in the NBA for 5/1. In this
example you want to Delete only the one game. TYPE <1> twice, and
in answer to the "Last Team #?" prompt, TYPE <2>.
A blinking message will momentarily appear on the screen saying,
"DELETING GAME(S)". It takes a few seconds, and you will then get
the message "GAME(S) DELETED".
SPORTSBOOK will then ask you if you want to "DELETE MORE" or Exit.
If you elect to delete more you will get a prompt to enter a Team
#. TYPE <9> to Exit.
DELETION BY DATES:
In this option, you will be asked to enter the "from and to" dates.
Then, all games entered from (and including) the "from" date and
to (and including) the "to" date, will be deleted.
The games are not actually removed from the hard disk. They are
tagged as "unavailable" and are overwritten as new data is entered.
In effect, the available space on your hard disk has been increased
but in terms of copying data to a floppy, the copy command
apparently copies all data, including records tagged as
"unavailable".
The only way to actually remove these records from the hard disk
is to run a program entitled REBUILD, sold by Microsoft.
You can try CHKDSK on the files themselves.
TIPS
After you Delete (and re-enter) teams, you will probably want to
take a look at the schedule, to be sure everything is the way it
should be. The way we do that is to call up Option 3, Print/Display
Line, which is discussed in the next Section.
Master records in the Line File (One for each Sport) are never
destroyed unless you Enter "55" from the Main Menu. These Master
records contain amounts wagered together with total amounts won and
lost by type of bet. It is the source of the information displayed
in Option 10 (Profit & Loss Report).
OPTION 3
PRINT/DISPLAY LINE
OPTION 3 enables you to see the information entered into the Line
& Schedule options in either DISPLAY or PRINT mode.
From the Main Menu, Select Option 3. SPORTSBOOK will ask you for
the Sport and the Date you wish to see.
The next message will ask you to select "P" or "D". P is for Print.
D is for Display.
DISPLAY MODE
When you choose "D" for Display, you will be asked to choose the
TEAM NUMBER you want to start viewing from.
Eg. If you want to see games beginning with Team 5, TYPE <5>
The screen will display one "screenful" of the Schedule and
Lines.
Within Display mode, options exist which allow you to review
games in random sequence. Just pay attention to and follow
the bottom line instructions on each display screen.
PRINT MODE
When you select "P" for Print Mode (Make sure your printer is
turned on) SPORTSBOOK will generate a numeric printout.
In numeric sequence, you will get a printout of the games in the
sequence of your schedule.
OPTION 4
ENTER/EDIT SCORES
ENTER SCORES:
From the Main Menu Select OPTION 4, Enter/Edit Scores. TYPE <4>.
You will get the familiar Select Sport and date request. Select a
Sport and Enter a Date.
The Cursor will be poise itself under the TEAM # Column. TYPE <5>
or a team number of a game you have entered.. Assuming that there
is such a game, SPORTSBOOK displays the Team Name and the Cursor
then moves over to the SCORE Column and awaits entry of a score.
After you enter the Visiting team's score, SPORTSBOOK displays the
number and the name of the Home team, and waits for a score to be
entered in the Score column.
It is not necessary to enter the games in consecutive order.
Whenever you get scores, you can enter games. When you Print or
Display the Scores, SPORTSBOOK will display them in numeric
sequence. To Exit, TYPE <999>.
EDIT SCORES:
Editing scores is exactly the same as entering scores. If you want
to change something you entered, you can change it by simply
re-entering the same game numbers and re-typing the correct
information.
OPTION 5
PRINT/DISPLAY SCORES:
From the Main Menu, TYPE <5>. You should know by now how to answer
the questions you'll be asked. Sport, Date, and, P or D.
SPORTSBOOK will now ask what team number to start with. Enter the
lowest odd number you want displayed or printed.
If you select Display, the computer will display five games at a
time on the screen, and you will have to hit ENTER to scroll
screens.
If you select Print, the printer will print out all the games, in
whatever Sport you're in, starting with the lowest number you
selected.
OPTION 6
ENTER WAGERS/CHANGE LINE
TIP: Be aware that you cannot enter a wager on a game unless a
Line for that game has been entered in the Line File (Option 1).
The Line File (a "55" entry from the Main Menu) and the Cash and
Customer files (a "44" entry from the Main Menu) must have been
created earlier.
If you try to enter a wager on a game that doesn't exist in your
Line File, or when there is no Cash and/or Customer file to receive
the data, you will get an error message to that effect.
ENTERING ACTION
1) TYPE <6> from the Main Menu.
2) Respond to the date screen, (TYPE <870501> or <Y>.
3) SPORTSBOOK will display a "Sign-On" screen asking whether you
are using a printer to print tickets, the Operator Number,
Starting Cash, and Starting Ticket Number. The Ticket Number
you select to start at, must be higher than the last ticket
written.
4) Finally, a "Ready Screen" will ask if you want to take a bet
or Exit. If you want to take a bet (write a ticket), Depress
"Enter", otherwise, TYPE <9999>.
If you elect to continue, SPORTSBOOK will display:
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

The Cursor will be poised under the Wager Options portion of the
Menu. Select the type of wager you're making. Eg. If you're making
a straight bet, TYPE <1>.
TYPES OF BETS
ENTERING A STRAIGHT BET:
Let's say that you want to enter a Straight Bet on the Boston
Celtics (team number 6 in the schedule) for $200.
1) TYPE <1> for Straight Bet.
The Cursor moves to the SPT (Sport) Column and awaits entry of a
number from 1-7. At the bottom of the screen you will see a list
of numbers and corresponding Sports. Soon you will know them by
heart.Since the bet we're making is in the NBA,
2) TYPE <1> for NBA.
3) TYPE <6> for Boston.
SPORTSBOOK will then display "BOSTON" under TM NAME, "STR" under
TYP and a number representing the current line under LINE. The
Cursor will stop under the AMOUNT Column so that you can enter the
amount of the bet.
4) TYPE <220>. REMEMBER, you bet at Odds of 11-10. That is, if the
bet is $200. you must give the teller $220. If you win, your return
will be $440. (The $220 you wagered together with the $200 you
won).
NEVER enter a dollar sign or a comma. If the amount was $1,000 you
would type <1100>. SPORTSBOOK does not accept cents.
After you enter the amount of the bet, SPORTSBOOK displays a new
screen and a new set of choices. The screen will look like this:
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
OPTION 6 SPORTBOOK ENTRIES 87/05/01

5) TYPE <9> signifying to SPORTSBOOK there are no more entries
for this ticket. You will then see a Recap Screen.
Following is the effect of each Option:
0 - Cancels the bet.
5 - Allows you to change the Line on the bet you are entering,
which change applies to all future bets.
6 - Allows you to change (override) the odds on the bet you are
entering (Subsequent bets will not be effected.)
7 - Allows you to enter another bet with the same account.
8 - If the Sport and the Type of bet are the same as for the
previous bet, this option allows you to enter additional
bets without asking you the Sport or the Type of bet.
9 - Exits the account.
TIP
The Zero allows you to cancel the wager BEFORE you hit the "7" "8"
or "9". AFTER you enter a "7" "8" or "9" the bet is recorded, and
it can't be changed.
ABOUT OPTION 6
Odds will be pre-determined by you in Option 14. Option 6 allows
you to override the odds on the bet you are entering.(You might
make a special proposition bet.) If you want to override the
standard odds on a bet, SPORTSBOOK will prompt you for the "Lay"
and "Take" price. Changing the odds in this way does not affect
future bets. If you want to change odds permanently, you have to
use Option 9.
ABOUT OPTION 5
Option 5 in the Wager Option Menu allows you to change the line
quickly and easily. Suppose you are entering a wager where the line
being given you is not the same as the one recorded in your
linefile.
CHANGING THE LINE IN OPTION 6:
After entering the particular bet, when the cursor is back at the
WAGER OPTIONS part of the screen, TYPE <5>. The Cursor moves to the
Line Position (it moves the old line to the right a little) and
awaits entry of the new line. Remember, here you must enter a minus
sign if the new line is on the favorite. The Line is now
permanently changed, for this and all future bets.
TIP: When you overlay the LINE (Option 5) it is different from when
you OVERLAY the odds (Option 6). Overlaying the LINE is permanent.
Overlaying the ODDS is just for that bet.
ENTERING AN OVER/UNDER BET: (TOTALS)
Entering a bet on a Total and changing the Line on Totals, is the
same as for Straight Bets with the following exceptions:
1) Under Wager Options, TYPE <2>.
2) After entering the amount of the bet the cursor will stop at the
S/T column. The purpose of this column, is to enable you to tell
SPORTSBOOK whether the bet is an "Over" or an "Under". On the right
of the screen, you'll see a display which says 1=Ov, 2=Un. If the
bet is Over, TYPE <1>.If the bet is Under, TYPE <2>.
ENTERING PARLAYS
Differences:
1) After typing <3> for PARLAY, SPORTSBOOK will ask: How many
teams?
2) After entering the Sport, Team #, the Amount (Here, remember
to enter the actual bet of $100 as opposed to the usual $110)
and the over/under selection, you must TYPE <7> to tell
SPORTSBOOK you are ready to enter the second part of the
Parlay. (Unless you change the line or cancel the bet).
3 ) No money is entered after the first line entry is made.
4) The Options available after the final leg of the Parlay is
entered are: Cancel, Change Line or Exit. TYPE <9> to complete
the entry. SPORTSBOOK will display a Recap screen.
ENTERING TEASERS:
Differences:
1) After typing <4> for TEASER, SPORTSBOOK will ask: a) How many
teams, and then, b) What Sport.
2) When you enter the SPORT you will be asked how many points. We
have to say, in football, whether we want a 6, 6.5, or 7 point
teaser; and in basketball whether we want a 4, 4.5 or 5 point
teaser.
3) On the Wager screen the Teaser points are shown under "TMS".
The actual line is displayed under "LINE". In the recap
screen the two are added together.
ENTERING ROUND ROBINS:
A Round Robin is a series of PARLAYS. If, for example, you want to
take three teams and combine each of the teams in a 2-team parlay
with each of the other teams, you would tell SPORTSBOOK that you
want a 2-Team Round Robin (two teamer) with 3 games. (This creates
three separate 2-team parlays.)
Differences:
After typing <5> for ROUND ROBIN, SPORTSBOOK will ask:
a) How many "teamer?"
If the individual Parlays involve two teams each, TYPE
<2>. (Two and three teamers are allowed).
b) How many "games?"
If the Robin involves three teams, (SPORTSBOOK accepts 8)
TYPE <3>. Three teamers allow a maximum of 4 games.
c) Sport (SPT), Team Number (TM#), and Side or Total (S/T)
for each part.
The Side/Total part is easy:
DEPRESS ENTER for a Side Bet.
TYPE <1> for Over.
TYPE <2> for Under.
d) After you enter the last game of the Round Robin, you will
see another message appear:
INCLUDING ALL? Y/N __
TYPE <Y> or <N>. Responding "Y" generates one more Parlay with all
the teams in it.
e) Finally you will be asked to enter the amount of the bet.
This amount is the amount for EACH PARLAY. SPORTSBOOK
will then display the total amount bet on all the parlays
contained in the Robin and produce a Recap Screen.
OPTION 7
GAME/TICKET ACTION
Option 7 allows you to analyse a particular game, display Ticket
Activity, display Window receipts and Delete ticket Activity by
date. In addition, this option allows the payment of winning
tickets, and appropriate voiding and holding of tickets.
In Game Analysis, SPORTSBOOK displays how much has been bet on each
side of a game and at what line.
In Wagers (Ticket Activity) SPORTSBOOK displays, by specific
ticket, the results on any given day.
Under the option called "Receipts" you can see how much has been
taken in by your operation thus far and,
When you want to remove "old" ticket information from your disk,
use "Action Delete".
The Cashier option allows you to pay or void a ticket as well as

RECEIPTS
If you select this sub-option, SPORTSBOOK will report the current
Window number, its opening cash, how much has been taken in at that
window, together with a total. Also, there will be a display of the
Cumulatuve total for the day.
DELETE ACTION:
Normally, a hard disk can contain all of the year's records with
little storage problem. However, should you want to delete Action
Records, the date you select AND all dates prior, will be deleted
from the Ticket file.
The number of records deleted via this process will be displayed
at the completion of the process. Unprocessed records will not be
deleted.
CASHIER
In this option, you will be asked to choose one of the following:
Pay a Ticket Holding (or Release a held ticket)
Void a Ticket
Paying a ticket requires the entry of an existing ticket number
which has been totally scored and contains an amount due. Holding
a ticket prevents payment without some kind of intervention.
Voiding a ticket can not take place if the ticket has already been
scored.
OPTION 8
PROCESS WAGERS
Anytime you elect to process wagers, SPORTSBOOK will produce a
win/lose result on all games processed to that point, plus a count
of the number of games that were processed. SPORTSBOOK will never
"process" games twice, so there is no need to wait until the end
of the day, if you want to intermittantly process.
After entering scores in Option 4, verifying them in Option 5 AND
Saving your Customer, Cash and Line files, select Process Wagers
from the Main Menu: TYPE <8>.
The first Screen you will see warns you to make sure the scores are
correct (Option 4) and that you have saved your files.
At this point, you can Exit the process by: TYPE <9>.
If you choose to proceed, SPORTSBOOK will ask you the date for
which you wish to process records.
Should you observe that the date you entered is incorrect,
SPORTSBOOK again allows you to Exit the process by: TYPE <9>.
If you proceed, SPORTSBOOK will "load" all scores entered in Option
4 and display the number of "Game Scores" loaded.
Another opportunity to Exit the process is provided at this point.
A reason to Exit might be that another score has become final, and
you want to include it.
If you choose to proceed at this point, THERE IS NO RETURNING.
A Blinking message will let you know that all is well and that
SPORTSBOOK is doing its job. Computers never get tired and always
produce the correct result (although you might not like it).
The following Display is SPORTSBOOK's mid-way report:
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
This message tells you that in this "set" of games you won $1,350.
Verification of this result can be effected by examining tickets
(by number) in Option 7.
OPTION 9
SET ODDS
SPORTSBOOK contains previously set odds, which are those used at
most of the Las Vegas Sports Books. We know, however, that odds
differ in different parts of the country. SPORTSBOOK has the
capability to change any and all odds.
Following is the first Option 9 Screen:

CHANGING STRAIGHT BET ODDS:
If you Select Straight Odds by: TYPE <1> you will learn that all
Straight bet odds are set at 11-10. Hockey is set at Even money and
uses a Split-line.
Let's say that you want to charge 6-5 in NCAA Baskets.
1. TYPE <2> for NCAA Hoops.
2. SPORTSBOOK Displays a "LAY PAY" message with the cursor
in the LAY column. TYPE <6>. The cursor will move over to the
PAY column. TYPE <5>. The odds on NCAA basketball are now
changed to 6 to 5 PERMANENTLY. They will remain so unless
changed in this manner. This means that all wagers entered
for college basketball will be calculated as being at odds of
6-5.
TIP
If you practice changing odds and really don't want to
change them, be sure to change them back again to what they
originally were. TYPE <9> to Exit.
CHANGING OVER/UNDER ODDS (TOTALS):
Changing Totals Odds is no different than changing Straight Bets.
TYPE <2> for TOTALS, the SPORT you want to change, and then,
enter the " LAY, PAY" prices.
TIP: Changing the Straight Bet odds doesn't AUTOMATICALLY change
the Totals odds (and vice versa). Each set of odds must be
changed separately.
CHANGING PARLAY ODDS:
PARLAY odds are also changed by Sport, and then, by number of teams
in the Parlay. You can select a sport, and then change the two-team
parlay odds and leave the three-team parlay alone. (By now you
should be getting the idea that you can change each pay- out for
each sport and each proposition throughout all the types of bets.)
Example: To change the odds for a 2-Team Parlay in the CFL from (13
to 5) to (12 to 5).

The PARLAY ODDS MENU has now been changed and 2-TEAM Parlays in the
CFL are set to pay off at 12 to 5 (instead of 13 to 5).
TYPE <9> to Exit.
NOTE: In any Parlay, where there is a tie, SPORTSBOOK automatically
drops the odds to the next lower set. Eg. A tie in a three team
parlay would drop the odds to 13-5 (from 6-1). A tie in a two team
parlay would drop the odds to 11-10 (from 13-5). A winning $100.
bet in this case would only win $90.
CHANGING TEASER ODDS:
Once you've chosen Teasers,SPORTSBOOK displays a message that asks
you if you want to change Football Teasers or Basketball Teasers.
Let's say you want to change the 2 team, 6 point teaser odds in the
NFL.

TYPE <1> for the 6 point teaser selection.
TYPE <3> for NFL.
and TYPE <2> for number of teams.
Let's say you want to change the 6 Point, 2 Team Teaser from even
money (1 to 1) to 11 to 10. You simply Enter 11 over the LAY and
then 10 over the PAY.
NOTE: In entering the wager amount in a teaser you always enter the
"lay" amount. Care then needs to be exercised where the odds
are in favor of the sportsbook Eg. In the case of odds being
11-10 or 12-10, you must enter $110. and $120. respectively.
IMBALANCE AMOUNT SIGNAL:
One of SPORTSBOOK's features is to notify you when the action on
one side of a game exceeds, by any amount you specify, the action
on the other side of that game. This is extremely helpful when
deciding when to make line changes.
Also, you can have different "Notification" amounts for TOTALS than
for SIDES (Straight Bets), as well as different amounts by sport.
SPORTSBOOK has set $5,000 as the Imbalance Amount for STRAIGHT BETS
and set $2,000 as the Imbalance Amount for TOTALS.
To change the Imbalance Amount:
From the Main Menu, TYPE <9> and then TYPE <5> for the Set
Imbalance Amount portion. SPORTSBOOK will Display:

"Straight" amount. (No commas or decimals).
When the cursor moves to the next Amount column, enter the "Totals"
amount. Entries must be in tandum, so you must change both columns
even should one stay the same.
COLLECT ON TIES:
Most Sportsbooks do not take money on ties. In Vegas, it would be
unheard of, however, it does happen when the sportsbook is "the
only game in town". SPORTSBOOK treats all ties as "No Bet".
Following is the procedure to change any propositions on which you
want the system to collect on ties.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

You can separately control each sport and each type of bet to have
your sportsbook collect on ties or not.
NOTE: SPORTSBOOK presumes, if you enter this option that you ARE
going to make a change. If not, select any sport and change
the existing "N" to "N" again.
OPTION 10
REPORTS
Option 10 provides you with four selections. With three of them,
you must have a printer.
The first report is a profit & loss display of the total dollars
wagered in each sport together with a breakout of the amounts and
percentage won in each sport.
The three print reports have to do with tickets. The first lists
all tickets written for a specific day. The second lists cashier
activity and the third lists uncollected tickets.
Following is a sample Profit and Loss Display and a brief
explanation of each column:
SPORT AMT WAGERED % of TOTAL AMT WON % of WAGERED
1 750,870 13.60 30,710 4.09
2 94,565 1.71 -3,243 -3.43
3 2,375,410 43.02 134,685 5.67
4 990,215 17.94 42,084 4.25
5 72,870 1.32 3,876 5.32
5,519,270 100.00 266,790 4.83
SPORT:
1 signifies the NBA, 2 signifies NCAA Basketball, etc.
AMT WAGERED:
The number in this column represents the total amount of money
wagered in this sport. For example, $750,870 has been wagered in
NBA Basketball to date.
% OF TOTAL:
This figure represents this sport's percentage of the total
volume. Eg. 43.02% of all bets made, were made in the NFL.
AMT WON:
This figure shows you the total amount of money won or lost in each
sport.
% OF WAGERED:
This figure represents the percentage of the Win/Loss amount
compared to the total bet for that sport. For example, the $42,084
won in college football represents 4.25 percent of the $990,215
wagered.
After examining this screen, Hit Enter. SPORTSBOOK continues to
further breakdown these figures by TYPE OF BET.
Following is a simulated display of the screens that follow:

OPTION 11
RISK EVALUATION
SPORTSBOOK's Risk Evaluation program allows us to enter an
"imaginary" score, on a game that has not yet been played to
ascertain the result given the particular score entered.
This information is very valuable, and is particularly so, on a
Monday night in the NFL.
From the Main Menu, Select Option 11 (Risk Evaluation). TYPE <11>
As an Example, suppose it is Sunday evening, and all the Sunday
scores are final. We want to know what will happen if, in the
Monday Night game, Memphis wins and the game goes Over. San Antonio
is a two point favorite and the total is 37.
After responding to the usual Date Screen, SPORTSBOOK Displays the
following screen:
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

The Display should look as follows:

at the completion, will display the following type screen:

STR -$1,310
TOT -$630
PAR -$490
TEA -$210
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
What the Risk Evaluation Program just revealed for us was:
If Memphis covers the point spread, and if the game goes over, we
will lose $2,640. The amount is broken down into straight bets,
totals, parlays and teasers.
Similarily, you can now enter new scores to learn what would happen
if Orlando won and the game went Over, if Memphis won and the game
went Under, and if Orlando won and the game went Under.
TIP:
You could get different results on games where you've changed
the line in the course of taking action, and have wagers at
more than one number. For example, if you had a game at 4 and
then 4 1/2, it would be necessary to input scores to cover
each line to get the complete risk evaluation picture.
